WHY TRAVEL WITH JENUT?
At Jenut Holidays, we support responsible tourism in conducting our business in whatever way we can. Though we may not be able to comply with providing special access for physically challenged guests due to the lack of logistic support and infrastructure, we are fully committed in protecting the environment, promoting conservation, and providing opportunities for the local population that benefit them from a socio-economic viewpoint.
Practising ecotourism and responsible travel is not easy nor cheap. Whilst some operators practice “greenwashing” by selling low-cost products and services in order to get high volumes of the mass tourism market, we prefer to stick to our principles by conducting small-group guided activities and observe fair trade so that it is beneficial to the client, the host community and most importantly, the environment.
We do not compromise on the quality of our services as we believe we must treat others with the same respect we expect others to treat us. Driven by the guiding principles for economic, social, and environmental responsibility, we aim to make responsible tourism a part of all we do. We hope you will join us in making a difference.
Our Philosophy in Upholding Responsible Tourism
Responsible Tourism represents a new approach to engaging with tourism, be that as a tourist, a business, locals at a destination or any other tourism stakeholder. All stakeholders are responsible for the kind of tourism they develop or engage in. While different groups may see responsibility in different ways, the shared understanding is that responsible tourism should entail an improvement in tourism and the industry should become better as a result of the responsible tourism approach.
In the 2002 Cape Town Declaration, it is stated that responsible tourism:
•minimizes negative economic, environmental, and social impacts;
•generates greater economic benefits for local people and enhances the well-being of host communities, improves working conditions and access to the industry;
•involves local people in decisions that affect their lives and life chances;
•makes positive contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, to the maintenance of the world's diversity;
•provides more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connections with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues;
•provides access for physically challenged people; and
•is culturally sensitive, engenders respect between tourists and hosts, and builds local pride and confidence.
The declaration concludes with a commitment 'to work with others to take responsibility for achieving the economic, social and environmental components of responsible and sustainable tourism.'
